Jeffery James Castagna (June 24, 1961 - October 10, 2026)

Jeffery James Castagna, 65, passed away peacefully at his home in Green River, on October 10, 2026, after a courageous walk with glioblastoma, carried out with immense strength and grace.

Born in Bemidji, Minnesota, on June 24, 1961, Jeff developed a lifelong appreciation for the outdoors, craftsmanship, and community. As an avid outdoorsman, he found true peace in nature through hunting, archery, and fishing with flies he carefully tied himself. Through his camera lens, he pursued his love of photographyโ€”documenting wildlife and landscapes, as well as capturing every highlight at his grandchildren’s sporting events. Whether out in nature enjoying God’s creation or spending time with family and close friends, Jeff was right where he wanted to be.

Jeff was also a talented carpenter and draftsman. With a keen eye for design and functionality, he took pride in crafting cherished treasures and spaces that brought utility, warmth, and a true sense of home to those around him.

Above all, Jeff was a dedicated educator. His greatest joy in life came from teachingโ€”he derived deep fulfillment from guiding his students, helping them unlock their potential, and inspiring them to discover their own unique strengths and passions. He spent 35 years pouring into the lives of his students at Sweetwater County School District #1. He loved knowing that he was teaching them lifelong skills that they could use regardless of career choice. He stayed in touch with many of his students and took great pride when they shared the impact he had made in their lives.

Jeff possessed a deep, genuine kindness that left a lasting mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him. Embodying a true sense of “Minnesota nice”, his warmth wasn’t loud or performative. It was rooted in a quiet humility and a sincere, thoughtful consideration for others. Whether he was offering a helping hand, sharing a peaceful moment by the water, or simply listening, Jeff made people feel seen, valued, and welcome.

Jeff met the love of his life, Kelly, in 2015. Following a four-year courtship, the couple tied the knot in Tennessee in August 2019โ€”a perfect backdrop that allowed Jeff to cross the Great Smoky Mountains off his bucket list.

He is survived by his wife Kelly Castagna; his chosen daughter, Robyn Meeks; his stepsons, Bobby Brown Jr. (Jerika) and Michael Brown (Ashley); and his cherished grandchildren, Travin, Quintin, Cazden, Raleigh, Lathan, Slayten, and Lexleigh, Sister-in-law, Barb Castagna; his niece and nephew, Laura Castagna and David Castagna; as well as his chosen family, Mark, Kristi, and Joy Hansen, who held a special place in his heart.

Jeff was preceded in death by his parents, James and Bonnie Castagna, and his brother, Steven Castagna.

In Jeffโ€™s memory, let us carry his spirit forward by weaving his quiet kindness into our daily live by slowing down, listening deeply, and treating everyone around us with thoughtful consideration.

The family respectfully requests donations be made in Jeffrey’s memory to the Tunnel to Tower Foundation, P.O. Box 70719, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 17176, or KLOVE Radio Station, 2000 Reams Fleming Boulevard, Franklin, Tennessee 37064.ย

Cremation will take place; a Private Family Remembrance will take place at a later date.
