GREEN RIVER — Sweetwater County School District No. 2 recently announced Lincoln Middle School (LMS) will not be hosting its annual Veterans Day Program due to the COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic.

The cancelation was announced by Lincoln Middle School Principal Matt Mikkelsen on the District’s Facebook page.

“It is with deep regret that Lincoln Middle School announces that the 2020 Veterans Day Program will not take place,” Mikkelsen’s letter stated.

“Additionally, due to social distancing and safety concerns for our students, we will not be able to create any new signs to recognize local Veterans along Uinta Drive,” Mikkelsen said. “These decisions were not easy for us to make.”

Due to COVID-19 Coronavirus concerns, the safety of the district’s veterans and students comes first. With this in mind, Mikkelsen felt LMS doesn’t have the space needed to ensure the safety of those in attendance.

“We know this is a much anticipated event for many of our local veterans, so we are working to ensure that future Veterans Day programs are safe for everyone,” Mikkelsen said. “We want to extend our heartfelt thanks and appreciation for all that our Veterans have done for our country and community.”
