ROCK SPRINGS – The Western Wyoming Men’s Basketball squad returns home after losing two close contests on the road. They are scheduled to face Northwest at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday night.
After opening conference play with two wins, the Mustangs dropped their last two on the road by a combined seven points. Northwest are winners of its last two beating Little Big Horn and Miles.
After controlling most of the game against Casper, the T-Birds hit a three in the final seconds to beat WWCC. The following game again went wire-to-wire with Western falling by five in the end, 70-65 despite a balanced Mustang attack. Western had four players score in double figures led by Callum Lawson who finished with 18 points. Tyrell Isaacs scored 16, David Thornton had 13 and Josh Fearing scored 12 in the loss.
The Mustangs enter averaging 79 points a game while only allowing 52 a game. Northwest comes in averaging 82 per contest while giving up just under 70 points per game.
The Mustangs have had a balanced attack all season with four players averaging in double figures led by Isaacs. He is averaging 14.2 points to lead the team in scoring. He also leads the team in assists with almost five dimes per game. Callum Lawson is second on the team in scoring with 13.4 per game while Thornton is averaging 12 and Fearing is putting in 11.4 per game.
Northwest has two players averaging in double figures led by Sukhjot Bains with 13.4 Jonathan Koud is second on the team in scoring averaging 12.7 per contest.
After taking a break on Friday, the Mustangs return to the home court Saturday as they face a tough Sheridan squad. The Generals are 3-1 in conference play and have only lost three games all season. Tip is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Western Wyoming Community College.
