ROCK SPRINGS — They’re doing it again! The Rock Springs Main Street/Urban Renewal Agency (URA) is offering a second, free, guided historical walking tour on Wednesday, August 31 at 6:00 p.m. While the self-guided tour has been around for decades, the Rock Springs Main Street/ URA offered a guided tour by local historian David Tate last month. Due to popular demand, they’ve scheduled the second one for next week.
This guided historic walking tour will provide an overview of the historical and cultural landmarks of downtown Rock Springs. Covering a wide range of architectural styles, and including anecdotes about the people behind the buildings, this tour is a great way to become acquainted (or re-acquainted) with the unique character of Rock Springs.
The tour is set for Wednesday, August 31 at 6:00 p.m., departing from the Rock Springs Main Street/URA office (603 S Main Street).
The tour promises to offer unique insights into Rock Springs’ storied past. Those interested are encouraged to sign up in advance by calling the Rock Springs Main Street/URA office at 307-352-1434 by Tuesday, August 30 at 12 noon.
Space is limited to 25 participants, so those interested are encouraged to sign up right away; last month’s tour filled up fast.
The tour will be led by David Tate who has served on the Rock Springs City Council since 1999.
David’s family has been in the community for four generations, and he holds a Masters Degree in Historic Preservation.
David was one of the original developers of the updated Historic Walking Tour and has a wealth of knowledge; he has a deep passion for Rock Springs’ history, and beauty The Rock Springs Main Street/URA is charged with the redevelopment of Downtown Rock Springs.
As part of their mission, there are four standing committees – Economic Restructuring, Organization, Promotions and Design. The Organization Committee plays a key role in keeping the Board, Committees, staff, and programs of work in good shape by attracting people and funds for the organization.
