ROCK SPRINGS – The final two bar and grill liquor licenses have been taken as the Rock Springs City Council approved two applications for them on Tuesday.
The council unanimously approved the two applications for Sapporo Wyoming III. LLC., and AppleBees. As part of the AppleBees request, the council also approved the transfer of the retail liquor license AppleBees is currently using.
The first application the council approved was from Sapporo Wyoming III, LLC. The address on the permit is 2441 Foothill which is in the area of the White Mountain Mall and the trade name of the business is Sapporo Japanese Steakhouse. The license will become effective on April 1.
The second involved two requests. The first request approved was to transfer the current retail liquor license being used by AppleBees to 1530 Elk Street which is the North Get N Go. Representative for North Get N Go Jay Schneider told the council it is good move for both business. He said a bar and grill license for AppleBees makes more sense than using a retail liquor license which North Get n Go can use.
With the transfer of the retail license, AppleeBees applied from the final bar and grill liquor license which the council approved. Both the transfer and bar and grill permit will be effective April 1.
Bar and grill liquor licenses are granted to communities by the state and how many a community gets is based on population. The city of Rock Springs currently has four bar and grill permits. With the approval of the two requests on Tuesday, all bar and grill permits are being used. The other two permits are currently being used by Coyote Creek and Lews.
There was a bill in this year’s legislative session which would have provided more of these permits to the communities of Wyoming. Bills starting in the Senate had to be introduced on the floor by Jan. 28. All bills that were not introduced by the deadline died. The bar and grill bill was not introduced on the floor by the deadline.
Another rumor which can be heard in Rock Springs on a daily basis is about new restaurants coming to the area. While the council controls and approves bar and grill permits and liquor licenses, the property owner decides which business they put on their property. The city council cannot dictate to a property owner what business they put on their property as long as it is in the correct zoning and meets city codes and requirements.
Malt Beverage and Liquor Catering Permit Requests
The city council also approved three liquor catering permits for upcoming events in the community
The first request approved came from Lynpaj, Inc., for five liquor catering permits for the annual Jenkins Music Pool Tournament at the Sweetwater Events Complex. The permits run from April 8 to April 12 from 7 p.m. to midnight each day.
The second approval was a request from the Fish Bowl, LLC, for a liquor catering permit for the Muley Fanatic Foundation Spring Event on March 7 at the Sweetwater Events Complex. The permit will be valid from 4 p.m. to midnight.
The final approval was a request from Santa Fe Trails, Inc., for a liquor catering permit for the Sweetwater County Republican Lincoln Day Dinner. The dinner is on March 21 at the SCM Parish Center and is valid from 4:45 p.m. to midnight.
