SWEETWATER COUNTY — Tata Chemicals’ Wyoming Scholarship program will benefit Wyoming students this year at an increasing rate from years past.
On August 10th the students were presented $16,000 in scholarship grants. Most of the ten Wyoming-based college students were able to attend a ceremony held in their honor at Tata Chemicals’ Green River facility.
The 2016 scholarship winners will share in awards ranging from $1,000 to $2,500.
Launched in 2013, Tata Chemicals’ Wyoming Scholarship Program provides financial assistance to dependents of company employees who are enrolled at local universities. The winners of this year’s program included students enrolled at the University of Wyoming, Western Wyoming Community College and Casper College.
To date, the company has awarded over $26,000 in scholarship grants through this program. Martin Keighley, Tata Chemicals’ CEO and Managing Director, and Sabaleel Nandy, the new Vice President of Manufacturing spoke at the event.
Keighley spoke about the importance of the giving back to the community and outlined the history of philanthropy that has guided the group since being founded in 1868 by Jamsedji Tata.
Applicants are evaluated based on academic excellence, leadership, goals and aspirations. The winners are selected by a Review Committee at Tata Chemicals.
