Tell us a little about yourself.
I was born and raised in Rock Springs where he graduated high school. I then went on to get my degree at Utah State University where I met the love of my life, Harriet.
I spent the next 30 years in the mining industry, mining everything from trona and coal in Wyoming, aggregates in Texas, iron ore in South America and gold in Canada. During that time, we had two wonderful children and 6 grandchildren all of whom earned college degrees in various fields.
After all of that, I retired and returned to Rock Springs where I decided to begin my career in politics so I could make a difference. I served as a Sweetwater County Commissioner for 14 years, 10 of which were spent serving as the chairman of the County Commision.
What do you see as the most important issues in your candidacy and how will you address them?
There are a few different issues that need to be addressed. I believes government should serve the public by supporting quality development and not hindering or stopping it and in order to do that the attitude should be “how can we help and how can we make Rock Springs better?”.
There is no change without progress and in order for that to happen, everyone has to work as a team and be completely transparent not only with each other but with the residents of Rock Springs. Rock Springs is a mineral-rich city that requires governing bodies to have an understanding of business cycles and its effects on the economy. This means being accessible and accountable to council members and residents to understand what is needed and having the knowledge, skills and abilities to make it happen. Lastly, we have to focus on what the city needs and figure out a way to budget responsibly for that need.
