LARAMIE — The University of Wyoming soccer team opened and closed its preseason with a 1-0 exhibition victory over Denver on Sunday at the Madrid Sports Complex.
Alisa Bunn scored the game’s only goal in the 86th minute, with Maddie Burr providing the assist.
“It was a positive performance,” head coach Josh Purdum said. “We got to play everybody that was healthy and ready to go, and that was a huge positive. But even when we subbed, we showed our depth, and I’m excited for that. The performance for 90 minutes was very positive and puts us on the front foot going into the season.”
Wyoming outshot Denver 21-2 overall, including a 14-1 advantage in the second half. Bunn’s goal came after a wave of momentum from the Cowgirls late in the match.
Wyoming used two goalkeepers. Haley Bartel played the first half and made one save, while Julia Herges played the final 45 minutes and also made one save. Herges’ save came on a penalty kick.
The Cowgirls open the regular season Thursday when they host Drake at 4 p.m. at the Madrid Sports Complex.
