GREEN RIVER– The Green River Police Department (GRPD) Patrol Division is set to purchase new rifles, as the current firearms have reached their end-of-use lifespan.

The GRPD will be using $25,156 of restricted funds from the Drug Seizure Reserve Account to cover the cost of the rifles. These funds come from drug cases that have been worked by the Attorney General’s office, on behalf of the GRPD.

“Our portion of that [fund] was shared to us, and that can only be used for non-normal budge police expenses,” Tom Jarvie, Green River Police Chief said.

Chief Jarvie said the current rifles are close to 15 years old and needed to be replaced. The old rifles have been traded in for parts to reduce the cost of the new rifles.
