SWEETWATER COUNTY — Several municipal races were impacted by Tuesday’s elections as candidates vied for the top two positions in the polls to continue their campaign to November.
According to unofficial results from the Sweetwater County Clerk’s Office, Mayor Max Mickelson and Councilor Rick Milonas will continue to run in the General Election. Mickelson enjoyed a large lead throughout the evening, ultimately earning 2,762 votes while Milonas received 959. The third candidate, Kathy Phelps, received 525 votes.
In Green River, a larger field was reduced to two candidates with former legislator Stan Blake and Philip Stanton moving on to the November election. Blake received the most votes with 893, while Stanton received 561. Karl Bode took third with 431 votes, Mark Peterson finished fourth with 396 votes, Kayla Kappers placed fifth with 130 votes and Jason Howard placed sixth with 129 votes.
Two Green River City Council races were impacted by the primaries as well. Incumbent Ron Williams and former Councilman Tom Murphy will continue to the general election Ward 1, with Jason Souza being removed from the race. Williams received 479 votes, Murphy received 296 votes, while Souza received 142.
In Ward 3, Robert Ross and Paul Stephens will continue their campaigns. Stevens received 436 votes, while Ross received 312, and Clifford Vanderpool earned 204 votes.
