SWEETWATER COUNTY — The Sweetwater County Board of County Commissioners will consider potential cost-of-living adjustments for county employees during their meeting Tuesday morning.

Sweetwater County Human Resources Director Garry McLean will present the board with a range of COLA options and their associated costs, based on data from the Wyoming Economic Analysis Division.

According to agenda documents, the county’s current annual employment cost is roughly $30.24 million. A 1% COLA would add about $295,260 a year to that total, while a 2% increase would cost about $590,520 annually. The options McLean presented range from 1% to 6%, with a 6% COLA costing the county roughly $1.77 million a year.

Because the board is considering implementing a COLA partway through the fiscal year, McLean also broke down the monthly cost of each option. A 3% COLA would add $73,815 a month in employment costs. If enacted effective October, a 3% COLA would cost $664,335 for the remaining nine months of the fiscal year.

McLean also cites the Wyoming Economic Analysis Division’s most recent Wyoming Cost of Living Index report, which put statewide inflation at 3.4% for the fourth quarter of 2025. The report’s regional breakdown lists Southwest Wyoming at 3.7% inflation. The same report’s comparative index ranked Sweetwater County 8 points below the statewide average.
