ROCK SPRINGS — The StandForWhitt Foundation recently donated more than $10,000 to the YWCA of Sweetwater County Crisis Center.
The money was raised during the foundation’s first #StandForWhitt 5k walk and run and fundraising event. The event was hosted by the family of 29-year-old Whitney Sewell who died tragically in Rock Springs on December 16, 2019, from a gunshot wound as a result of homicide. Her husband, Hunter Sewell, 26, also died on December 16, 2019, from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
After Whitney died, the family created the foundation to raise awareness about domestic violence, share Whitney’s story, and to honor her memory.
Whitney’s mom, Nicole Halstead said the final amount raised was through the foundation’s fundraising efforts was $10,390.
“We are so very thankful for the wonderful community that we live in. We are humbled by the generosity we have received,” Halstead said. “We will continue to raise awareness about domestic violence and honor Whitney’s life.”
“It is important to remember Whitney’s life, how many lives she touched, her smile, and her heart of gold. Until our last breath, her friends and family will continue to tell her story, but most importantly keep her memory alive,” Halstead said. “My daughter was so much more than a statistic and victim.”
